Murder suspect may have fled the country: police

By News Staff

The suspect in a 2016 murder may have fled the country, Toronto police said Friday.

Michael Teddy Gibson, 29, is wanted for first-degree murder in the shooting death of 27-year-old Julian Weekes.

Weekes was killed on April 2. According to police, the shooting happened around 2 a.m. outside Fuse, a bar at 366 Queen St. E. Weekes was found on the sidewalk near Parliament and Richmond streets and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The day of the shooting, Weekes and Gibson had attended a memorial for another murdered friend and were later seen together at the bar.

There were outside the bar together when “without warning, Gibson allegedly fired numerous shots at Weekes, causing him to flee,” Det.-Sgt. Michael Patterson said in a YouTube video.

“A trail of blood was traced back to the Fuse bar,” Patterson said.

Police have not released a possible motive for the shooting.

Anyone who may be hiding Gibson could be charged, Patterson said. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
