Suspect identified in shooting death of Julian Weekes

Toronto police have identified a suspect in the shooting death of 27-year-old Julian Weekes on April 2.

Michael Teddy Gibson, 29, is wanted for first-degree murder.

According to police, the shooting happened at around 2 a.m. outside the Fuse Bar at 366 Queen St. E. Weekes was found on the sidewalk near Parliament and Richmond streets and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Through partners in the Regent Park community, numerous witnesses that have spoken to us and very high quality surveillance video, we were able to identify the suspect as the person responsible for shooting and killing Julian Weekes,” Det.-Sgt. Michael Patterson told reporters on Monday.

Gibson is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone sees him, they are asked to call 911 immediately.

Patterson said Weekes and Gibson knew each other prior to the shooting.

“It would appear that Weekes didn’t feel Gibson was a threat,” Patterson said. “We also know there were witnesses to this murder that have yet to come forward to police. I am encouraging you at this time to come forward and talk to us.”

Police have yet to elaborate on a motive for the shooting.
