By News Staff

Four men have been charged with first-degree murder in a downtown shooting in 2015.

One of the men charged in the death of Charles Shillingford is also accused in two deaths this year, Toronto police said at a news conference on Monday.

Shillingford, 25,was likely shot on Charles Street around 2:25 a.m. on Oct. 31. However, he was found in a car at Yonge and Charles streets just moments later.

Police say that after getting shot, Shillingford got into a car and attempted to drive away. He was then involved in a crash. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, not the crash.

Jahmal Joseph Richardson, 31, of Oakville; Kyle Sparks MacKinnon, 26, of Toronto; Mitchell Mannette, 20, of Halifax; and Denzell Tyresse Walter Desmond, 19, of Halifax; were all arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Toronto police said the men were arrested between May 2 and May 6. They will appear in court on May 19.

MacKinnon is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder after a brazen shooting in Chinatown earlier this year.

Five men were shot near Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street following an altercation outside the New Ho King restaurant in the early morning hours of Jan. 31. Quinn Taylor, 29, and David Michael Eminess, 26, were killed. Three other people were injured.

MacKinnon was arrested on Feb. 11.
