Arrest made in Chinatown double-murder

By News staff

Toronto police have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of two men in Chinatown last month.
Chief Mark Saunders said as a result of surveillance images released earlier in the week, information and tips received from members of the public, Kyle Sparks-McKinnon, 25, of Toronto was arrested without incident on Thursday. He’s been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.
“Anytime we arrest somebody that decides to pull a firearm out and shoot and strike five people that is a positive sign that the city is a safer place,” Saunders told reporters. “I am still going to ask people to be vigilant but having him under arrest does make the city safer.”
Police say they are still uncertain if the murders were gang-related and that the investigation is still ongoing.
“This investigation is not over yet. We’ve arrested somebody and a lot of times what happens is, people think these investigations are over. It’s not over,” said Saunders. “There are still pieces of the puzzle, and in this specific case we’re looking for exactly what the cause of this was. We’re also looking for people that were there.”
Five men were shot near Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street following an altercation outside the New Ho King restaurant in the early morning hours of Jan. 31. Quinn Taylor, 29, and David Michael Eminess, 26, were killed and the three other people were injured.
