New video and new twists in the tail of a brazen daytime shooting in Ajax that sent two people to hospital and left more than 40 bullet casings lying on a busy roadway.

The shooting happened last Wednesday afternoon, at Kingston Road and Harwood.

The video shows two male suspects get out of a dark-coloured car at the light, run up to a white car, and start shooting.

The white vehicle wound up on the side of the road in front of a restaurant, full of bullet holes. A man and woman inside both went to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

It now appears at least one if not both of the victims fired back.

“I am not sure where they were shooting from, whether they were shooting from inside the vehicle or whether they were already outside the vehicle,” said Durham police Constable Crystal Fitzgerald.

“That is something we’re going to have to determine through the investigation.”

The video from the intersection shows one of the attackers flinching and ducking beside the car.

The two victims have been charged with weapons offences and the man is facing extra charges for allegedly assaulting police on Thursday as he was being arrested while leaving the hospital.

He ran off into a stranger’s house but was later taken into custody outside the home.

No one was else was hurt.

Last Wednesday after the shooting took place, the dark-coloured suspect vehicle was seen being driven to Meadowvale Road in Scarborough.

Police later found the car torched and burnt to a crisp and it was eventually confirmed by Durham police it was, in fact, the vehicle driven by the two attackers.

It is believed that the suspects fled the arson scene in a white Honda Civic. The pair are still at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Police need to hear from anyone who witnessed the shooting or who knows either suspect.
