Blue Jays official refutes reported 3-year contract with Michael Brantley

Less than 24 hours after signing George Springer to the longest, richest contract in team history, the Toronto Blue Jays were hoping to quickly add to its club once again.

That didn’t go exactly as planned this time around.

Though it was initially reported the Blue Jays had agreed to a contract with outfielder Michael Brantley, a team official refuted that, saying no deal was reached.

Brantley has now reportedly agreed to a two-year, $32-million contract to stay with the Houston Astros, according to multiple reports.

Had a deal been reached, Brantley, 33, would have followed Springer – his former Astros teammate – to Toronto after the Jays reportedly reached agreements with right-handed relievers Kirby Yates and Tyler Chatwood.

Regardless of the outcome, the Blue Jays likely aren’t done making moves as the front office now, presumably, looks at starting pitching to address its rotation.

The club has also been linked to free-agent Trevor Bauer, among many others.
