Ontario reporting drop in new COVID-19 cases, Toronto sees rise in infections

Ontario is reporting 1,249 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, and 12 deaths.

Tuesday’s new cases number is a 16 per cent decline compared to the day before, however, the number of deaths is up 20 per cent.

On Monday, the province saw 1,487 new cases of the virus, and 10 deaths.

There are 1,135 more resolved cases reported, an increase of 14.4 per cent compared to Monday’s count, bringing the total number of resolved cases to date to 80,430.

26,468 tests were completed, down 6,883 tests compared to Monday.

The positivity rate for Tuesday’s recorded tests is 6.1 per cent, meaning of the 26,468 cases recorded, 6.1 per cent of those confirmed positive for the virus. That per cent up two per cent from Monday.

529 cases are hospitalized, with 127 in ICU, and 75 on ventilators.

There are 569 new cases in Toronto, an increase compared to the 508 cases reported Monday. There is still approximately 40 unreported case records from Toronto Public Health, since November 14, which means there could be an overestimation in counts.

Peel Region is seeing a drop from Monday’s count of 392 to 256 on Tuesday, and Ottawa is seeing a decline compared to the day before with 11 cases, down from 51.

York is also seeing a decline compared to the day before with 94 new cases, down from 170, Hamilton has seen a decrease from 35 to 19, and Waterloo dropped from 67 cases to 42 on Monday.

Durham region is seeing an increase in cases on Tuesday with 69, up from 45, Halton is seeing 12 more cases with 58, and Niagara is seeing eight more cases with 27 new cases on Tuesday.

There are 133 new cases in Ontario schools reported Tuesday, an increase compared to the 106 cases reported Monday.

73 of those cases are linked to students, 23 related to staff, and 37 are not identified.

There is a total of 96,745 confirmed cases of the virus reported in Ontario to date.
