Ontario reports new daily COVID-19 case record high, Toronto sees more than 500

Ontario is reporting 1,388 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, and 15 deaths.

This comes after the province reported 1,242 cases of the virus on Monday.

Compared to the day before, Tuesday is seeing an 11.8 per cent increase in cases, and a 25 per cent increase in deaths.

29,125 tests have been completed, and 5.7 per cent of them have confirmed positive. That positivity rate is up 0.7 per cent from Tuesday.

Toronto is seeing the highest number of new cases on Tuesday with 520, up from Monday’s 483.

Peel Region is also reporting a jump in cases with 395, an increase from 279 on Monday.

Halton is seeing an increase in cases with 72, up from 37 the day before, Niagara is also seeing an increase from 18 cases to 50, Durham more than doubled with 36 new cases, and Huron jumped from two to 22.

York Region is seeing a drop in cases with 100 cases on Tuesday, down from 107, Ottawa sees a decrease from 74 cases to 23, and Hamilton is seeing a dip from 57 to 35.

The province’s schools are seeing an uptick of cases with 159, up from 79.  103 of those cases are linked to students, 23 to staff, and 33 are unidentified.

There are 781 more resolved cases, a 4.9 per cent drop compared to Tuesday, now bringing the total of confirmed cases to 86,783 in the province.
