Trudeau says no to trick-or-treating ahead of unconventional Halloween

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he understands how frustrating the pandemic is for parents and children who want to have a traditional Halloween.

On Tuesday, Trudeau revealed he, too, will be staying home with the kids instead of hitting the streets.

“Listening to Public Health officials it means my family will not be going trick-or-treating this year,” Trudeau said.

“In Ottawa, and in Ontario, red zones like Ottawa, they are not encouraging or recommending trick-or-treating and therefore, we won’t be,” he added.

Trudeau says his children might take part in an Easter-style egg hunt around the house instead.

This comes as several government and health officials, including Premier Doug Ford, Mayor John Tory, and Toronto’s top doctor Eileen de Villa, all urged Ontario residents living in COVID-19 hotspots to think of other ways to celebrate.

“I think families will be creative to how they respond to giving their kids as fun a holiday as we can while always listening to public health officials and listening to local guidelines,” Trudeau said.

“I know our country’s doctors have our best interest at heart.”
