Toronto police remind drivers of road safety as kids head back to class

It’s back to school for kids across the GTA, and back to traffic for everyone else on the roads.
The end of summer vacation means the morning commute will likely be slower and busier than it has been over the past few weeks.
With this in mind, Toronto police are reminding all road users to think about safety first, especially when it comes to school children, pedestrians and cyclists.
“We all need to have the common goal of reaching our destinations safely each day,” Sgt. Brett Moore, of Toronto Traffic Services, said in a statement Tuesday morning.
“Too often, speed (and) distracted, aggressive and impaired driving lead to collisions and injuries. Parking violations around school zones cause frustration, congestion and an unsafe environment for students. All of these actions are preventable and avoidable.”
As well, transit officials are reminding parents that kids aged 12 and under ride the TTC for free and that all students, including post-secondary students enrolled full-time at an accredited institution in Toronto, are eligible for a discounted Metropass.
For those using the bus, streetcar or subway, the TTC, and Seth Rogen, are reminding customers to be courteous and remove backpacks while riding on transit and place them on their lap or the floor between their feet.
