ATV crashes into OPP cruiser after police chase on QEW and Eastport

A police chase on the QEW through Hamilton and Burlington ended with an ATV crashing into an OPP cruiser near Eastport Drive on Monday morning.
OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt said it all began when witnesses spotted an ATV travelling on the highway before 8:30 a.m.
“Driving down the QEW, coming from the Beamsville area all the way into Hamilton, Burlington. We got multiple reports of this vehicle up and down, on the roads, driving erratically. two people on the ATV at the time — obviously not allowed on the QEW,” Schmidt explained.
The driver of the ATV, a 35-year-old man, faces several charges. He and his passenger, a 33-year-old woman, both suffered minor injuries.
The SIU is investigating.
Eastport was closed in both directions at the lift bridge but has since reopened.
