TTC probing cause of signal issues on Line 1

The TTC says it expects to have full answers on Monday about what caused signal issues at Wilson Yard that delayed riders on Line 1 and Line 2.

The subway issue started just after 6 a.m. Friday when the TTC said service on that line would be “severely impacted,” and that riders would experience longer than normal wait times.

An hour later, TTC spokesperson Brad Ross tweeted “yard is back up, but still slow right now.”

Then, around 8 a.m., Brad Ross tweeted “full service has resumed on Line 1,” but added that riders can expect slower than normal travel times until the end of the morning rush hour.

It is not yet known what caused the signal issues, but Ross said there were software updates made to the system at Wilson Yard on Thursday.

To alleviate the backlog, trains were brought in from Line 2 to supplement service on Line 1.

trains were running between Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and Lawrence West stations, with shuttle buses from Lawrence West to St. George stations. Train service then ran from St. George to Finch stations.

At the height of the delay, Ross said he wouldn’t normally say this but “perhaps consider an alternate this morning.”
