Watermain break closes section of Yonge Street near King, subway entrance closed

A watermain break has shut down a portion of Yonge Street and is affecting at least one TTC subway entrance.

Crews were called to the scene near Melinda Street just before 3 a.m. on Thursday.

The water began rushing down the stairs to the Melinda Street entrance of King Street subway station.

Transit officials said that at this time it doesn’t appear service will be affected, however the Melinda Street entrance will remain closed until the water has been cleaned up.

Police closed Yonge Street in both directions from King to Wellington streets as crews worked to repair the break.

The northbound lanes were reopened just after 6 a.m.

The southbound lanes remain closed.
