Bail decision for 1 of 2 suspects in assault of man with autism deferred to Wednesday

One of the two suspects charged in the alleged beating of a 29-year-old man with autism appeared in court for a bail hearing Tuesday.
Parmvir ‘Parm’ Singh Chahil, 21, was arrested on Friday and made a brief court appearance on Monday, represented by a lawyer from B.C. It appeared Chahil had injuries to his eyes and forehead.
On Tuesday, Chahil returned to a Brampton courthouse for what turned into a contentious bail hearing, with his defence lawyer objecting to the Crown’s evidence several times.
The hearing began at around 11:30 a.m. and concluded six hours later, with the Justice of the Peace deferring her decision to 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The second of three suspects, Ronjot Singh Dhami turned himself in to police just after 5 a.m. Monday and his bail hearing is also set for Wednesday morning.
Police also arrested Hardip Padda, 44, and Harmanovir Chahil, 18, both of Windsor, and charged them with accessory after the fact. The two are believed to be the mother and brother of Parmvir ‘Parm’ Singh Chahil.
A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued last week for Chahil and Dhami and both face one count each of aggravated assault. Both accused have a no-contact order with the alleged victim.
Police have yet to identify the third male suspect, but say he may go by the name “Jason.”
The incident leading to the charges happened at the Square One bus terminal around 10:45 p.m. on March 13.
A video of the attack showed the victim sitting at the bottom of a stairwell putting on roller blades when three young men approached from behind and began to punch and kick him.
Police said the unidentified victim suffered a broken nose and facial cuts.
