Stolen Baby Jesus, Mary returned to Bancroft church

Prayers have been answered at a small church in Bancroft after the stolen statues of Baby Jesus and Mary were returned.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the statues were stolen from the nativity scene on the front lawn of St. Paul’s United Church on Hastings Street South on Dec. 9.

In a post on Facebook, Rev. Lynn Watson said a mysterious stranger installed replacement statues the following week but there was still no trace of the originals.

However, police said on Wednesday the figures of the Baby Jesus and Mary were returned to the church.

“Got a call late last night that the original Mary and baby Jesus have been found … returned to St. Pauls … now what is the theological significance of having 2 Marys,” Rev. Watson posted on Facebook.

Police said no charges will be laid but they still wish to speak with the individuals involved.
