SIU probe death of man taken into custody by Toronto police

The province’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a 57-year-old man in Toronto over the weekend.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) were called to an apartment building near Sherbourne Sreet and Dundas Street East for a disturbance around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

When police arrived, the man was in the security office, handcuffed and seated. The officers took over custody of the man and searched him.

The man sat back down, but shortly after, he fell to the ground and was without vital signs.

Paramedics on scene performed CPR and rushed the man to hospital, where he died.
