Man arrested for impaired driving in fatal crash near Newmarket

A man has been arrested for impaired driving after a fatal crash near Newmarket on Monday, Ontario provincial police say.

The head-on crash happened on Highway 48 near Davis Drive just before 6 a.m.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a northbound vehicle may have drifted into the southbound lanes and collided with a southbound vehicle. The man in the southbound vehicle was killed.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He has been arrested for impaired driving.

Highway 48 between Davis Drive and Vivian Road was closed but reopened just before 2 p.m.
