Firefighters rescued eight people from a fire at a low-rise apartment building in downtown Toronto, and officials are investigating whether hoarding played a role in the blaze.
The fire began on the fourth floor of the Sherbourne Street building, between Carlton and Wellesley streets, before 5 a.m on Tuesday.
“Here I am with no shoes,” Rodney Brown, who escaped the fire, told CityNews.
“My partner and friends saw a great amount of smoke. I told them to go to the window while I blocked out the bottom of the door. It was right at the point that I answered the door because firefighters had come to the door and they escorted us out,” he said.
The fire has been knocked down.
No injuries have been reported.
