Peel police cruiser crash sends 2 to hospital

By News Staff

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in following a frightening crash between a Peel police cruiser and another vehicle in Brampton.

However, police said Thursday that the SIU did not invoke their mandate, indicating that the injuries were not serious.

The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Main and Queen streets.

As a result of the collision, the cruiser flipped over, injuring one police officer. He was treated and released from hospital.

A woman was also taken to hospital, treated and released. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
