Arson charge laid in Caledon house explosion

A 23-year-old man has been charged with arson after a house exploded in Caledon on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Castlederg Side Road, between Duffy’s Lane and Humber Station Road, just before 1 p.m.

Caledon Fire Chief Darryl Bailey said that when crews arrived on scene they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

One man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No other people were inside the home at the time of the explosion.

Police said Ankit Bhargava of Caledon has been arrested and charged with arson — damage to property.
