Security footage released of violent home invasion

By News Staff

Four people have been arrested after a violent home invasion near Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue West earlier this year. Police say they are searching for a fifth suspect.

On Feb. 20, police say two men and one woman entered an apartment building through the underground parking lot. The two men then headed up to the victim’s apartment unit and knocked on his door.

When the victim opened the door, the men allegedly rushed into the apartment and demanded money and jewellery.

Security footage of the incident showed the victim struggled with the men, whom police say were armed with a handgun and a screwdriver.

“Once the door was opened, the victim was aggressively approached, tackled and shot. Two rounds were fired at him. One hit him in the shoulder,” Staff Insp. Mike Earl explained.

“The other male suspect was armed with a screwdriver and stabbed him in the head numerous times.”

The men then allegedly stole several items from the victim’s home before fleeing.

“I can tell you first-hand knowledge from my investigators, that this has nothing to do with drugs or gangs. This is a home invasion of an innocent individual, a business owner, and the motive for this is clearly money and property,” Earl said.

The victim is recovering from the attack but his identity will not be released to protect his safety.

Between May 16 and May 27, four suspects were arrested in connection with the attack.

Andre Allen, 26, of Scarborough, and Krystle Cormack, 33, Mark Bollers, 27, and Toni Baxter, 26, of North York, each face multiple charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Police said these suspects are connected to a similar home invasion on Feb. 15 in Kingston. Earl said a suspect is also outstanding in that robbery as well.

“These two home invasions are clearly connected. We’re looking for the public’s assistance in identifying or telling us who the outstanding person is, who we believe is the shooter in this home invasion,” Earl said.

Security images of the suspects have been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers.
