Brampton nurse arrested, accused of stealing health records at William Osler

Peel police have arrested a Brampton nurse, accused of stealing a patient’s health records to obtain prescription painkillers.
“It’s supposed to be confidential. And now it’s out there,” patient Pamela Osmand-Roe told CityNews on Tuesday. Even more worrisome? She says she hasn’t been to the William Osler Health System in six or seven years.
Osmand-Roe showed CityNews a letter from William Osler that says a staff member at used her information to get Percocet. The letter came this week and she fears she may not have been the only one who had their information stolen.
“How long has this been going on? We know nothing about it … The mailman told me he’s delivered 30 letters like these, and [another mailman] had 20,” Osmand-Roe said.
William Osler has not confirmed just how many people were affected, or what changes – if any – are being made to the records system. The hospital confirmed an employee had viewed patient’s information, and that the employee was no longer working at the hospital.
The investigation began in January, Peel police said Wednesday.
Catharina Demme, 58, is accused of breach of trust and theft under $5,000. Demme was arrested on March 30, and will next appear in court on May 4.
