SUV crashes through barrier, hits side of moving GO train

A driver escaped with only minor injuries after their SUV hit the side of a moving train and ended up on the tracks in Mississauga.

Peel police told 680 NEWS the car crashed through a barrier at Thomas Street and Queen Street South, near the Streetsville GO station, on Tuesday morning. It then bumped the side of the train.

It appears the driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and then went through the barrier. The barrier was in the down position.

Trains were holding on the Milton line west of Erindale Station but service has since resumed. However, GO said drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

In a tweet, Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikens said the train has minor damage to its side but is safe to operate.
