SIU probing 2-vehicle crash in east-end Toronto

By News staff

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a police chase ended in a two-vehicle collision in the city’s east end.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Toronto police were trying to pull over a car that was heading east on Kingston Road just after midnight on Thursday.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, did not stop and continued north on Scarborough Golf Club Road. He then crashed into a taxi at Scarborough Golf Club Road and Lawrence Avenue East.

The 19-year-old and the taxi driver were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

There is no word on charges.

The intersection was closed in all directions for the investigation but has since reopened.

The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
