Peel police say a woman was carjacked at gunpoint on Sunday night in Mississauga, with the suspect later crashing the stolen vehicle into a police cruiser before escaping.

It happened around 11 p.m. in the Burnhamthorpe Road West and Erin Mills Parkway area.

Police tell CityNews the woman had just returned to her vehicle when she was approached by a man with a gun. The suspect stole the car, leaving the victim behind uninjured.

While responding to the call, police spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the one that had just been stolen.

When police approached the car, the driver suddenly reversed, crashing into the officer’s cruiser. The officer wasn’t hurt, but the suspect managed to escape.

He remains at large and is described as a black male with a thin build wearing a dark hoodie.

The vehicle is 2008 four-door Ford Escape with rear end damage.
