College Street Bar at centre of sex assault allegations to remain closed until May

By News Staff

The city has ruled the College Street Bar will remain closed until May 12 while two men face allegations of sexual assault against a female patron.

The Toronto Licensing Tribunal reaffirmed the closure on Thursday, adding that the bar’s owner, Gavin MacMillan, and an employee, Enzo De Jesus Carrasco, are also barred from being at or near the bar during the closure.

MacMillan and Carrasco face a total of 16 charges in connection with a December 14 incident in which a 24-year-old woman claimed she was given illicit drugs and alcohol while in the bar and detained against her will.

MacMillan charged with four counts of gang sexual assault, forcible confinement, trafficking, and failing to comply with recognizance. Carrasco is facing four charges of gang sex assault, forcible confinement, trafficking, and three counts of sexual assault.

Both men are currently out on bail pending trial.

Since the arrests, there have been protests outside the bar, and an online petition demanding the venue be shut down.
