Man wanted for attempting to lure 9 year old into car in Whitby

By News Staff

Durham Regional Police are investigating after a nine year old boy walking home from school says a man tried to lure him into his car.

It happened on Tuesday afternoon in the Carnwith Drive and Cachet Boulevard area in Brooklin, not far from Brooklin Village Public School and St. John Paul the Second Catholic School.

Police say when the boy refused to get into the man’s car, the driver tried to entice the boy with money.

The child ran home and got his father, who went outside and saw the suspect vehicle. Police were called but a search of the area failed to turn up any sign of the vehicle.

The suspect is described as white, approximately 65-years-old with grey hair and a full, white beard. He was driving a four-door grey or silver vehicle and the licence plate may contain the letters ‘BTTV’.

Police are asking parents to ensure their children are aware of the possible dangers from suspicious people and vehicles and not to engage in conversation with people not known to them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
