Teen charged in Richmond Hill machete stabbing

By News Staff

An 18-year-old teen has been charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly stabbed another teen with a machete.

The stabbing happened before 3 p.m. on Friday, near St. Theresa Lisieux Catholic High School.

That’s around the same time a parent became involved in a fight among students from St. Theresa and nearby Cardinal Carter Catholic High School. However, York regional police said Tuesday the two events are not connected.

Police said one youth was stabbed near St. Theresa and taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The suspect surrendered to police on Tuesday, and appeared in court later that day.

Bernard Devaux is charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, and carrying a concealed weapon.

He will next appear in court on Jan. 11, 2017.
