Snow hits parts of GTA, rain in Toronto

By News Staff

A mix of snow, blowing snow, sleet and rain made for a slippery drive north of the city and parts of the GTA on Monday.

On Sunday, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Toronto and much of the GTA calling for snowfall overnight. The statement was lifted just before 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Toronto escaped the brunt of the weather system with rain, but other areas dealt with snow and blowing snow.

Around five centimetres of snow fell in some areas as temperatures fell just below the freezing mark. Environment Canada said other areas could get up to 10 centimetres of snow.

680 NEWS meteorologist Jill Taylor said precipitation in the GTA will end early Monday morning. The temperature will rise to a high of 5 C.

The GTA is not done with the wet weather with showers in store on Tuesday afternoon.
