Man dead after shooting at Mississauga party

By News Staff

One person is dead following a shooting in Mississauga early Saturday morning.

Around 4 a.m., Peel Regional Police were called to the Kinsmen Club of Streetsville, a City-owned event venue at Queen Street South and Church Street, following reports as many as three people had been shot.

Paramedics tell CityNews a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kinsmen Club manager Bruce Johnson said the building was rented out for a party on Friday night.

“I’ve been doing this for 15 years. I’ve never envisioned that something like this would happen,” he said. “We’re just dealing with this the best we can.”

Johnson added that the contract allows for people to be at the hall from 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. but that the partygoers stayed longer.

“We’re very embarrassed and we’ll do what we can to rectify anything like this in the future,” he said.

Meantime, police were also dealing with two more shooting victims in Mississauga several kilometres away.

Both men were discovered in the area of Creditview Road and Eglinton Avenue. Paramedics say one man was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. His condition has been upgraded and he’s now in serious condition.

The other man walked into a local hospital.

Police did not release any suspect descriptions and could not say if the two shootings are related.
