SIU investigating after man dies on Highway 400

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a 49-year-old man died at a highway overpass north of Toronto.

The Special Investigations Unit says York Regional police responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. Monday.

The SIU says a short time after officers arrived the man was struck and killed by a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 400 in Vaughan at Major Mackenzie Drive.

The incident shut down the highway for more than five hours as the SIU investigated.

The SIU is an arms-length organization that investigates incidents involving police in which there have been deaths, injuries or allegations of sexual assault.
