Possible human remains found at recycling plant

Police are conducting an extensive search at a recycling plant in the city’s north end after the discovery of possible human remains.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at Canada Fibers Ltd. in the Highway 400 and Sheppard Avenue area around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

A worker claimed he’d discovered what looked to be a decomposed human hand inside one of the industrial recycling bins.

Const. Jennifer Sidhu said officers are checking the area and speaking with any witnesses.

“We have our forensics unit and specialized units within the Toronto Police Service that are going to further investigate to determine whether or not it is actually human remains that have been located,” she explained.

Until it has been determined if the remains are human or animal, police will not comment on a possible connection to other recent cases of located body parts.

Investigators remain on scene.
