Cyclist in serious condition after being struck downtown

A 25-year-old cyclist is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was struck in the downtown core.

It happened around 9 p.m. on Wednesday on Jarvis Street near Carlton Street. The force of the collision was so great it smashed the car’s windshield.

Police say the driver, a 34-year-old woman, remained on the scene.

The cyclist was heading west toward Jarvis while the driver was heading north on Jarvis when they collided in the intersection.

It’s not yet known if charges will be laid.
