The cost of love continues to rise in Canada

It’s not cheap being in love these days.

The price of romance – which includes a one-year dating period, a one-year engagement and the average Canadian wedding – has jumped by almost 23 per cent, to over $61,000.

Penelope Graham, Editor at RateSupermarket.ca, says a lower loonie is partly to blame.

“With consumer spending power on a decline, Canadians will see their dollars stretched on fancy dinners out and romantic getaways,” she says. “For couples planning significant financial milestones, this year may be especially hard on the wallet.”

Since the study debuted in 2013, the cost of love has gone up 41 per cent.
