Pedestrian, 88, struck and killed at Jane and Lawrence

An 88-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle on Wednesday night.

It happened as she was crossing Jane Street at Lawrence Avenue West around 8 p.m.

Toronto police say the driver, a 58-year-old man, was heading east on Lawrence in a 1999 Pontiac Montana minivan when he struck the woman.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto police are investigating. No charges have been laid and speed is not believed to be a factor. The driver remained at the scene.

Police say the victim was crossing the road mid-block and was wearing dark clothing when she was struck.
