Man charged with impaired driving in fatal Whitby crash

An Ajax man has been charged with impaired driving after a fatal crash in Whitby last month.
Durham police say a Mercedes and a Nissan collided at Dundas Street and Lake Ridge Road at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 18.
Witnesses say the Mercedes was heading west when it collided with the southbound Nissan.
The driver of the Nissan, a 68-year-old woman, was killed. Her car broke apart upon impact and two other vehicles were damaged by the flying debris.
The driver of the Mercedes is Desmond Morse, 42. Morse is charged with impaired driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death. He will be in custody until a bail hearing.
Morse was also injured in the crash, police say, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Nobody else was seriously injured.
