Female dance instructor accused of sexually assaulting girl, 12

A 34-year-old dance instructor is accused of sexually assaulting one of her students, a 12-year-old girl.

Police say the alleged assault occurred when the woman worked as a freelance dance instructor between September 2007 and March 2008.

She taught dance at Studio 22 in Woodbridge, which she owned, and at the Vince Parrell Dance Studio on Main Street in Toronto.

Police say she befriended the girl and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

There may be other victims, police say.

Cheryl Thompson, of Mississauga, is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation. She will appear in court on Nov. 5.
