Backhoe found in connection to believed homicide of Shawn Kapadia

The John Deere backhoe sought in connection to the disappearance and believed homicide of a 23-year-old Mississauga man has been found in Niagara Falls on Thursday.

At a news conference Wednesday, Det. Dave Dickinson said investigators believe Shawn Kapadia, 22, was murdered at a home on Foundry Avenue in the Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street area on Sunday, July 5 — the day he was last seen alive.

He was reported missing by his parents on July 10.

Dickinson said as of July 22, the body of Kapadia had yet to be located.

Police believe after his murder, Kapadia’s body was moved to the Niagara region and police were looking for a stolen or borrowed John Deere backhoe that may have been used to dispose of his body.

“This backhoe was seen leaving the (Wainfleet) address on July 12…carrying a large block of concrete in the front bucket,” Dickinson said.

Investigators are still looking for the concrete block that the backhoe was seen carrying on July 12.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.

Toronto police say there have been 27 homicides this year.
