LIVE BLOG: Apple announces music streaming service

Some Apple announcements came down on Monday as the technology giant holds its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

The biggest item announced by the company is its answer to Spotify. For months, reports have suggested Apple will debut its own streaming music service this summer.

Apple Music launches later this month. It will be $9.99 a month, with the first three months free. It will also launch for Android in the near future.

The conference starts at 1 p.m. Eastern. CityNews technology specialist Mike Yawney is there and will post live updates in the blog below, or click here for a mobile-friendly version.

Apple has said to be in talks to be with various artists and record labels to beef up its music selection.

The service is going to be called Apple Music. Bloomberg reports it will powered by Beats Music, which Apple bought last year.

Some iPhone and iPad software upgrades are also to be likely to be announced.

All of Apple’s top brass, including CEO Tim Cook, will be in San Francisco, Calif., for the conference.
