Toronto woman facing attempted murder charges after Vaughan jewelry store robbery

York police have made an arrest in a violent jewelry store robbery that happened in Vaughan last summer and police are crediting tips from the public.

In August of 2014, the store on Steeles Avenue West near Kipling Avenue was robbed by two women.

One of the suspects tried to shoot the store owner’s 11-year-old daughter, but the gun malfunctioned.

The second suspect used a taser on the owner and an employee, while three male suspects couldn’t get past the security door.

Katrina Vanderwyk, 24, of Toronto, was arrested by police on Tuesday and is now facing 10 charges — including two counts of attempted murder.

Vanderwyk was scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Wednesday. Police continue to search for four other suspects.
