Boy, 16, charged in ‘swatting’ incidents

The Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 16-year-old boy from New Tecumseth, an area south of Barrie, in relation to ‘swatting’ incidents.

OPP Sgt. Kelly Daniels says the incidents started in February in the area of Nottawasaga.

Two recent ‘swatting’ incidents in the GTA seem unconnected to the arrest.

Police believe swatting was to blame for Tuesday’s lockdown of one Brampton school and hold and secures at four others in Peel region.

Peel police confirmed they have been in contact with OPP but the OPP will only tell CityNews that they are investigating multiple incidents in their area since February. The OPP refused to say exactly how many incidents there were and what was targeted.

York police also say their investigation is ongoing.

An incident in Richmond Hill on Sunday was also due to swatting, police believe. An emergency task force was at a home in full tactical regalia investigating what turned out to be a fake call about an assault rifle inside the home. York region police released the audio from that 911 call. Listen to it here.
