2 pedestrians suffer life-threatening injuries in separate collisions

Two pedestrians are in hospital with life-threatening injuries after they were struck in separate incidents early Saturday morning in Toronto.

The first incident happened around 2 a.m. when a 29-year-old woman was struck near Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue.

Police say the driver failed to remain at the scene and a 23-year-old Pickering man was later arrested.

Matthew Dalton faces three charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. Police said he had a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams.

He was due in court at Old City Hall on Saturday morning.

Around 4 a.m. a man in his 40s was struck by a taxi near Indian Grove Road, near Bloor Street West and Keele Street. Bloor remains closed to traffic in both directions.

Police tell 680 NEWS the taxi driver remained at the scene and his cooperating with the investigation.
