Driver injured after bus wedged under Weston Road bridge

A 61-year-old driver is in hospital after a bus became wedged underneath a bridge on Weston Road, north of Highway 401, on Monday morning.

Police said the driver was the only occupant of the bus at the time. Emergency crews worked to free the man, who was then taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say it appears the bus clipped a truck, went off road and up onto the grass, before hitting the pole.

A city engineer has been called to the scene to assess the structural integrity of the bridge.

Albion Road has reopened, but Weston remains closed, police say.

The crash is also affecting TTC’s 89 Weston route.

There has been no word on what caused the crash.
