Envelopes containing white powder sent to offices on Parliament Hill

The RCMP is investigating after suspicious envelopes containing an unidentified white powder were delivered to senators on Monday morning.

Police and the hazardous materials unit are on scene and are testing the substance to determine whether it is toxic or hazardous.

The envelopes were sent to senators both on Parliament Hill and to one of the buildings in the parliamentary precinct.

The speaker of the House of Commons has advised Members of Parliament to be on alert for suspicious packages and not to open them.

No injuries have been reported.

The Globe and Mail is reporting “Ottawa shooting” is written on the envelopes. The RCMP has not confirmed.
