Residents of North York highrise frustrated by recurring power outages

A building on Chalkfarm Drive, near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue, finally had its power restored on Wednesday after four days without reliable hydro.

The lights and heat came back for all units around 4 p.m. But many living here weren’t convinced their power is back on for good.

Residents — many of them seniors or disabled — said the problem started on Saturday night and, since then, service for basic utilities has been spotty.

A sign in the building’s lobby said there was a malfunction in the building’s electrical system and the landlord, Greenwin Property Management, was working as quickly as it could to rectify the problem.

In the meantime, a small generator was brought in to unsuccessfully power the 500-unit building.

Residents said they’ve long complained to Greenwin about a variety of problems.

The company hasn’t yet responded to requests for comment.
