Toronto ends extreme cold weather alert

Toronto got a reprieve from the frigid weather on Sunday, which also marked the end of an extreme cold weather alert announced two days ago.

The city put out a statement Sunday morning saying Medical Officer of Health Dr. David McKeown had terminated the alert.

It was issued on Friday to trigger more support and shelter beds for the city’s homeless. Those services will not be available until further notice.

The temperature is forecast to reach a high of -1 C on Sunday, but 680News Meteorologist Jill Taylor said it will be “very cold” again overnight Monday and Tuesday morning.

She also said Toronto will get snow late Sunday night and early Monday, which will affect the morning commute.
