Some of the highlights from the Manitoba throne speech

WINNIPEG – Here are some of the promises in the Manitoba government’s throne speech:

— Student loans will be offered interest-free

— More courses will be offered online and more post-secondary credits will be available in high school

— People under 18 will be banned from using tanning beds

— The speed limit on the Trans-Canada Highway 1 will be raised to 110 kilometres an hour from the Saskatchewan boundary to Winnipeg

— A new, higher bridge will be built at Morris to reduce flooding on Highway 75

— A new law to provide benefits for first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder

— A new agency to promote energy efficiency, separate from Manitoba Hydro

— A new law to crack down on zebra mussel and protect Lake Winnipeg

— The government will cut costs by reducing 9,290 square metres in office space

— A new law will require veterinarians to disclose the full price of their services beforehand
