Ford says tumour is not responding to chemotherapy: report

After two rounds of chemotherapy, Mayor Rob Ford’s tumour hasn’t shrunk.

Ford broke the news to Toronto Sun columnist Joe Warmington on Thursday, saying the tumour “didn’t budge” and is “exactly the same size.”

He also told Warmington that he’s been diagnosed with pneumonia for which he is taking antibiotics.

Doctors still can’t operate because of the size of the tumour, but Ford looked on the bright side, noting that it hasn’t grown.

A third round of chemo will now be necessary in hopes that the tumour will respond.

The Sun story says Ford’s medical team will provide an update on Monday.

Ford was elected councillor in Ward 2 Etobicoke in the municipal election. He bowed out of the mayor’s race when he was diagnosed with a rare form of abdominal cancer in September.

At the time Dr. Zane Cohen said he was optimistic about Ford’s treatment. “This particular liposarcoma is more sensitive to chemotherapy than most sarcomas,” he said.
