Construction worker seriously injured by beam at York U worksite

A construction worker in his 20s has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was trapped in a nine-metre pit and pinned by a 3,000-kilogram beam on a worksite at York University.

It is believed to be the same TTC construction site where a man was killed in October 2011.

Toronto police say the man has crush injuries to his lower body. The beam did not hit his head.

He was conscious and breathing on the scene before being transported to hospital.

Crews used a crane to hoist him out of the pit.
