Gardiner closed this weekend for fall maintenance

Drivers will have to find another way to navigate in and out of the downtown core this weekend, as the Gardiner Expressway is scheduled to be closed for fall maintenance.

The Gardiner Expressway, between Carlaw Avenue and Highway 427, will be shut down in both directions until 5 a.m. on Monday.

The eastbound lanes will be closed at 11 p.m. on Friday, while the westbound lanes are closed at 11:59 p.m.

During the closure, road crews will be conducting several takes, including cleaning catch basins, repairing potholes and guardrails, sweeping streets, re-marking lanes, as well as bridge and overhead sign inspections.

Drivers can use Lake Shore Boulevard, the Queensway, Richmond Street, King Street, Queen Street and Evans Avenue as alternative routes.

In order to ease traffic congestion during the closure, the city said it will take the following steps:

  • Change traffic signal times on certain routes
  • Provide real-time traffic information on overhead signs
  • Coordinate other construction projects to avoid major work on parallel routes where possible

Other road closures
